Our Mission

Change starts with one local voice — yours.

Unlock a Cause exists to make it easy for neighbors, small businesses, schools, and local leaders to move from concern to collective action. We focus on prevention because it is the most affordable, equitable, and humane solution to stop harm before it starts.

Community-led

Campaign ideas come directly from residents and local partners, ensuring relevance and inclusivity.

Evidence-based

Furthermore, we prioritize strategies with measurable prevention outcomes to maintain accountability.

Radically transparent

Every dollar is traceable from pledge to impact. Transparency builds trust, and trust creates stronger action.

How it Works

From idea to impact — fast.

1) Listen & Co-design

Residents, local organizations, and advisors surface issues. Together, we run short design sprints to shape prevention-first campaigns.

2) Launch

Campaigns go live with clear goals, budgets, and timelines. Public dashboards display progress openly in the Impact Gallery.

3) Distribute

Funds split automatically—50% to prevention, 50% to uplift. As a result, micro-grants move within days instead of months.

4) Track & Share

Every dollar and outcome is logged to the campaign page with receipts, milestones, and visual updates.

Our Story

Built by neighbors who wanted more than thoughts & prayers.

Unlock a Cause began as a kitchen-table project driven by ordinary people with extraordinary concern. Parents, veterans, teachers, and nurses asked why funding simple, life-saving prevention was so difficult.

2019

The spark

Small pilots with school counselors and block associations led to faster help and fewer crises.

2021

The model

We formalized 50/50 uplift and launched public campaign pages with receipts and outcome dashboards.

2023

Scale responsibly

Security, data, and governance upgrades improved reliability. Partners rated us 4.8/5 for ease and trust.

Today

Your city next

We are onboarding new towns and coalitions. If your community is ready, we’re ready to help.

Questions

Frequently Asked

What makes Unlock a Cause different?
Prevention is our priority, and funding is split 50/50 with community uplift. Every dollar is tracked publicly with clear outcomes, not just totals. Explore the full process on our Impact Details page.

Who decides which campaigns launch?
Local residents and partners propose ideas. A community review panel scores feasibility, equity, and evidence. Consequently, the highest-scoring ideas go live first. Read updates on our News page.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Donations are generally tax-deductible, and receipts are emailed instantly and stored in your account area.

How quickly do funds move?
Micro-grants are issued on a rolling basis as milestones are met. Many disbursements occur within seven to ten days of funding.

Do you work with small businesses?
Absolutely. Local businesses can match donations, sponsor milestones, or offer in-kind support. They are essential to community resilience. See examples in our Gallery.
