According to the Department of Health, 14% of Black New Yorkers had diabetes in 2022 — about 1 in 7 people. In Queens, the diabetes prevalence rate is 12% higher than in other boroughs. In Southwest Queens, the rate reached 23% in 2022.

    My mother has diabetes and prior to my mom My grandma and grandpa had diabetes. This is a real issue in black families living in Newyork. I love that this campaign is not just raising awareness but also providing real resources where families can get checked and get services for preventative care as well.
